Note from Bar Matchless, 11.11.11

Let me start off by thanking Kamron from Headsnatcher for thinking of us when they needed someone to fill in.

Have you heard Bezoar and Prostitution? If you answered “no” to either part of this question, then you are doing something wrong. It’s time to make a change in your life. Start now.

Notes from the Precious Metal Halloween Party

In short: tons of fun.

The idea was simple. A bunch of bands playing short sets of cover tunes. So we basically threw together a couple covers 2 days before the show. Can you guess the end result?
yeah it was kind of a mess. we managed to completely ruin 3 very good songs: Cream – “Tales of Brave Ulysses”, “SWLABR” and “Born Under A Bad Sign”. (To be thorough, “Born Under A Bad Sign” was written by Booker T. Jones – of the MG’s – and originally performed by Albert King. Nuts to the idea of playing a Cream set…)

Regardless, we had a blast. The other bands really tore some things up.
Joey Molinaro playing Discordance Axis
Cut Your Teeth playing Limp Bizkit (true).
Man’s Gin playing Nirvana.
Pyrrhon playing Death, Black Flag and Mahavishnu Orchestra

Check out some photos here.

I would be remiss if I didn’t highlight the fact that Joey Molinaro was completely incredible. We were entirely blown away.

In summary, big thanks to Curran for putting it together and inviting us down, all the other bands for being generally awesome to hang out with, and everyone who came out and spent Halloween looking stupid and eating x-rated cake.

Aside – we have some music that might be posted soon. Check back.

General Update

I regret that we’ve been generally inactive on this page. For that I am sorry. I thought I’d take a moment to update you (whoever you are) on what’s been going on.

A bulleted list:

  • We’ve spent the past several weeks (5?) tracking an “ep” (for lack of a better term).
  • Drums, guitar and bass are down. Approximately half of the vocals are down as well.
  • Unfortunately, one of us is going to be out of town for a short period, so the rest of the vocal tracking will have to wait.
  • After tracking is complete, we’re going to sit down with our buddy Eric from Flourishing and start mixing.
  • End result: give us a couple of weeks and you’ll hear some things.

And by the way, last night we went out to Saint Vitus in Brooklyn to check out the following bands:
State Graves
Tiger Flowers
Meek Is Murder

We were there to celebrate the release of Tiger Flowers’ new ep. Which you should absolutely go buy, because they are awesome. It’s on iTunes and Amazon and it’s less than $4.

Listen to the bands I’ve listed. And wait for us to give you something to listen to. Then listen to that.

To the future!

Notes from Lit Lounge 7.25.11

Last night we hit Lit Lounge once again for Precious Metal, hosted by the venerable Curran Reynolds. This particular evening we were celebrating with Pyrrhon and Flourishing for the release of Flourishing’s full length release ‘The Sum Of All Fossils.’

Guess what? It was awesome. Pyrrhon is a band you should all be listening to if you aren’t already. They know what they’re doing and they do it well. If you are a fan of good old fashioned death metal but also want bands to keep things interesting, you’ll dig them. Flourishing? Always a great performance and they failed to disappoint. Their sound is massive and their new material is most excellent.

As for us? I think we did alright. You should definitely come check us out sometime. We’re aiming to get out there a little more. We’ve been lucky enough to play with a whole bunch of awesome bands (Pyrrhon, Imbroglio, Flourishing and Tiger Flowers to name a few) and hang out with some awesome people (Curran, Ryan and everyone at Precious Metal). Here’s to hoping we see you all out there.

Cheers.

Notes From Lit Lounge 4.25.11

Last night at Lit Lounge for Precious Metal Monday was hella fun. Are people still saying “hella?” Well just did. Deal with that.

In any case, Will from Tiger Flowers was kind enough to put us on the bill for this crazy show. And believe me, we are thoroughly appreciative. Tiger Flowers, Flourishing, Imbroglio and us. Let’s be clear about this. We would have been there if we were playing or not. Which basically means we got to see an awesome show for free simply by carting a bunch of gear and looking like fools for 30 minutes. Worth it.

It suffices to say we had a blast just hanging out with everyone, and also getting to see/listen to them, and lastly to share the stage with them. Our sincerest thanks to everyone at Lit Lounge/Precious Metal and everyone in the all the bands. For serious, you should be listening to all of them. They are great. If I haven’t linked to their pages enough, I’m going to do it again.

Tiger Flowers
Imbroglio
Flourishing

NB: there’s photos and videos from the show. I’m processing all of that right about now, so keep checking back to see them.
